The latest entry in the DC Extended Universe is a dud, the film has a very promising opening with Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu are two good additions to the cast as the daughters of Atlas. The museum scene has some scenes of horror with Liu’s Kalypso really gets a shine there.
Scripting is the main problem of this superhero flick, not just in terms of the plot, but also the jokes. One of the weirdest jokes is about Pedro’s sexuality, which isn’t in itself a problem, but they way they handled could be taken as making fun of him rather than the situation. I would have rather they not play his identity as a joke for the audience to laugh at when they could have had a heartfelt and genuinely emotional moment. But, most of the emotional moments don’t really hit at all.
There are positives here, but the negatives outweigh these – the bad script, the iffy flying VFX, one annoying generic third act monologue but hey at least the dragon is cool. Another positive of this film is the addition of Rachel Zegler!
